Diesel, as we know and love it, has come a long way over the last 100 years, but it started off in humble beginnings as a byproduct from crude oil refineries. It didn’t even have a name, and was left without a use for decades because nobody knew what to do with it. Thanks to Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel (another Christmas link there for you!), an engineer from Berlin, we now have diesel fuel as we know it today, powering cars, boats, trains and trucks, and even generating electricity.
